Rulo (Kick Smash)
offensiveadvancedalso called Rulo
A topspin overhead — the ball kicks up off the bounce and pops out of the cage. The most spectacular smash in padel.
🎯 When to use it
- ✓Very high lob with time to set up.
- ✓You want to hit a winner out the back of the court (out-of-cage).
- ✓The court has good height and back-glass clearance.
⚠️ Common mistakes
- ✗Hitting it too deep — robs the bounce of its kick.
- ✗Treating it like a flat smash — flat shots stay in the cage.
- ✗Using it on every smash opportunity — high difficulty, lower percentage.
🏆 Technique — step by step
- 1Same prep as a víbora but contact more behind the ball and lower.
- 2Brush up the back of the ball, then over the top — like a tennis kick serve.
- 3Aim short — the topspin will carry the ball deep, hit the bounce, and kick up high.
- 4Wrist snaps forward and over at contact.
💡 Pro tip
If your rulo isn't popping over the cage, you're probably hitting flat. Slow your racket head and brush more aggressively — pace doesn't make the kick, spin does.
